Levels & Skills

LEVEL 1

• An introduction to pencil and colored pencils

• Enjoys drawing from life

• Can draw simple shapes and an interest in drawing more complex shapes

• Draws a single animal: dog, cat, or horse

LEVEL 2

• Begins painting with acrylic, sketches with pencil

• A complex understanding of specific shapes

• Begins to scenes, buildings, beginning understanding of perspective

• Begins to use charcoal if desired

LEVEL 3

• Begins to work with watercolor and gouache

• Understands shading with pencil and colored pencils

• Self Portrait

• Overlapping colors and a solid foundation of color theory

• Begins to use pastels if desired

LEVEL 4

• Begins working with mixed media pieces, pencil and watercolor/ gouache

• Interested in complex scenes, town, zoo, park

• Interest in larger landscapes

• Good sense of color mixing

• Figure drawing, understanding of muscles and body proportions

LEVEL 5

• Complex understanding of all materials, watercolor and gouache, pencils and pastels

• Creating a complex scene with multiple figures

• Understanding of shading and lights/ darks

• Can use Oils if desired
