Levels & Skills
LEVEL 1
Ladybug
Ability to hold a marker/paint brush and draw the shape of a house, a simple shape
Excited about using different colors, using crayons, markers, and acrylic paint
A possible activity could be leaf rubbings with crayons. It is also an awesome way to teach color theory by layering different colors and working only with red, yellow, and blue.
LEVEL 2
Caterpillar
Strives to create pictorial images, has a better grip and understanding of shapes
Begins to work more in pencil
Focuses on one simple drawing or painting, simple animal shapes, dog or cat
Begins to paint with watercolors
LEVEL 3
Butterfly
Has an interest in overlapping shapes and colors, a better understanding of color mixing, and shades
Begins to draw more complex images as full scenes
Paints/ draws buildings, streets, beach scenes, and multiple animals
Has an interest in shading and a refined color palette
Works with colored pencils and watercolor, or acrylic paint
LEVEL 4
Bunny
Has completed a self portrait
Enjoys drawing different facial expressions and features
Interest in a mixed media approach, collage, watercolor, and colored pencils
Introduction to gouache
LEVEL 5
Kangaroo
Figure Drawing, interest in drawing multiple people in different activities
Art piece can include people playing team sports, walking, or dancing
Recognizes importance of a real life model, can draw family members or self in the mirror
can use any media desired: pencil, watercolor, acrylic, gouache
